iMentor supplements its revenue streams by engaging our mentor community in our fundraising efforts. Below, you’ll find some of the basics of mentor giving.
What is mentor giving?
Mentor giving is a revenue stream that leverages current, former and prospective mentors’ excitement and engagement with the iMentor model/program to secure additional funding.
Why consider developing mentor giving?
iMentor and our partners engage thousands of committed and driven volunteers across the country every year. This vast community of mentors get involved because they want to make a difference in the lives of young people, and are willing and excited to support the effort however they can; this network of like-minded people is an often-untapped fundraising resource.
How do we approach mentor giving?
We take a multi-faceted approach to mentor giving. Over the course of each year, we encourage supporters to donate on a one-time or monthly basis or to participate in a crowdfunding campaign by leveraging their networks to help our students succeed. In addition, we work with mentors to connect us to the companies they work for to provide matching gifts, grants or corporate sponsorships. By providing various avenues for mentors to support our program, we’ve found that we can reach more prospective contributors and bring in more revenue.
What kind of success have we seen in mentor giving?
Over the past few years, iMentor has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars from engaging mentor giving. We’ve found that along with volunteering their time, mentors are often excited to personally make monetary contributions and/or share their mentoring experience with their networks to support their students.
