Explaining user status, persona status and match status

On the iMentor platform, there are three types of statuses that users can have. A User Status, a Persona Status and a Match Status. Since this can get a bit tricky, this article is designed to help you tell the difference between each status. For instructions on how or when to change these statuses, please skip to the bottom of this article.

Users and User Personas

A user on the iMentor Platform is anyone with an iMentor account. Users on the iMentor Platform are unique, and identified based on their email address. Two users cannot have the same email address on the iMentor Platform.

Users on the iMentor Platform can have one or more personas. Many Users on the iMentor Platform only have one persona, as they have only experienced one match. However, if the user has had more than one match (or is waiting for a new match), then they will have multiple personas.

All users start out with one persona, but personas can only be matched once. If a user becomes eligible to have a second match in your program - for example, if the match has ended and the mentor wants to come back for a new match - they will need to have an additional persona created for them in order to match them with the new mentee.

User Status

A user status is the status of that individual. A user's status is linked directly to that unique user. Changes to the user status affect every persona if the user has multiple personas. User statuses are used to manage the big steps in a mentor or mentee's lifecycle in your program. Completing the application, passing the screening process, participating actively in a match, and leaving the program are all supported by the User Status.

You should only change a user status when you want all personas for that user to experience the same change. For example, if a mentor is not accepted into your program you would want to change the user status to Inactive Rejected. You can always revert any user status changes you make.

There are 6 user statuses on the iMentor Platform:

Persona Status

Persona status is the status of an individual's persona. Persona status is linked only to that particular persona and can be different across each persona without affecting the user status or other persona statuses. Persona statuses help us manage the re-screening and re-matching process by creating a new persona that can be effectively reevaluated and matched again.

Persona status can either be "Active" or "Inactive". All personas should have the status of "Active" unless the persona was made in error. If the persona was created in error, then the administrator can mark that persona as "Inactive" so as not to confuse other administrators.

If you find yourself in a situation where you want to inactivate all the personas for a user - don't! You probably need to change their user status to inactive instead.

Match Status

Match status is the status of the match this persona is matched with. Match status is linked only to each persona. Match statuses are used to easily identify which stage of matching the user is currently experiencing.
