What engagement activities are available?

Pear Deck creators can choose to add questions to pre-existing slides or use one of the many Pear Deck templates available.

To add a question to a pre-existing slide, simply select the type of question you would like to add from the options given (you can also add an external web link if you want participants to access a specific external website).

After you have added your question, the pear figure on the bottom of the slide will serve as confirmation that the slide has become interactive.

Pear Deck has a template library that you can use. To note, you can modify the text on all of these templates! Access the templates simply by clicking on the templates library.

There are many templates to choose from! We have chosen a few below to highlight due to their engagement abilities!

How can I use Pear Deck in my classroom?

Pear Deck can serve to enhance engagement within the iMentor classroom! It lends well to being used with the iMentor curriculum given that the curriculum is built with reflective discussion questions. Here are some suggestions of how to incorporate Pear Deck into your weekly iMentor lessons:

  • Do-Nows: This can be a great space to incorporate the "feelings" Pear Deck template. Getting a gauge of where students are at the beginning of class will give you a sense of the class's excitement and willingness to engage.  Alternatively, posing a Pear Deck class discussion question can allow for students to ease into classroom participation at the beginning of class.

  • Learn and Engage: Pear Deck's check for understanding template can be used to gauge if students are following along during the learn and engage. If confusions are caught early on, they will be easier to remediate.

  • End of Class: Asking students to reflect on how the class went can be helpful in gauging how the material has landed with students. There are many templates you can choose from as your feedback exit ticket, an easy one to employ is the thumbs up/down template.

How can I use Pear Deck during events?
