This article outlines applicant responsibilities for ensuring they successfully pass a background check in each region.
Step-by-step instructions for completing the online portion of the GoPass application, including screenshots, are available here: https://imentor.app.box.com/file/202681036475
Once a member of the NYC screening team creates a volunteer profile with GoPass, the applicant will receive this automated email from GoPass directing them to activate their account with DOE’s Applicant Gateway. Screening also invites they initiate their account in their fingerprinting instructional email.
There is no cost to the applicant for fingerprinting, though they may choose to cover the $60 cost of their GoPass background check as a donation to iMentor if they wish via this link. Unless otherwise specified, all GoPass visits need to be by appointment at the HR Connect Center at 65 Court Street in downtown Brooklyn. Times offered are typically Mondays through Saturdays, with latest appointments at 4:45pm. Screeners strongly encourage applicants bring their completed referral form with them to their appointment, along with a government issued ID. That form can be located once they log back into their DOE Gateway account. If applicants do not have access to a printer, they will not be turned away. Applicants should tell screeners once their fingerprinting is complete so they may track progress.
If the DOE requires any additional information from applicants, they will be contacted directly by the GoPass Investigator. iMentor does NOT receive details about any applicant’s background check except whether they are eligible, ineligible, or have an investigation pending. The Volunteer Screening Manager for NYC receives all status updates and reflects those in Salesforce.
Chicago volunteers complete CPS’s Fingerprinting Background Investigation Authorization & Release Form, which is provided to them at orientation. They should then bring the completed form with them to any Accurate Biometrics location to be fingerprinted as a volunteer for iMentor. At the end of their session, they’ll receive a receipt with their TCN on it. They should send the TCN number via email to their Screener—either type it out in an email or send a photo—so the Screening Team can keep track of their results.
There is no cost to the applicant for fingerprinting. iMentor covers the $59 cost for fingerprinting and the $10 cost for reprints.

Bay Area volunteers are fingerprinted by appointment or walk-in (depending on the vendor) at Red Tomatoes in Oakland, Postal Annex in Santa Clara, or Notary Public SF in San Francisco. These are independent vendors that iMentor is established with. A LiveScan form, specific to the Unity High Charter School partner must be completed and brought to the appointment in order to be printed. They receive this form in their instructions from their screener.
Bay Area volunteers must also complete a phone evaluation of the TB Risk Assessment Form with the nurse practitioner contracted with us. They schedule this at either orientation or during screening. The NP may clear this form on the call if not present with any of the outlined risk factors, or be directed to TB testing if a risk factor is present. Either the cleared assessment or negative TB results must be emailed to the appropriate school contact for review. **Note: any previous negative test results from within the past 4 years are acceptable by the school.
There is no cost to the applicant for fingerprinting or reprints unless the applicant decides to get LiveScan fingerprinted with any group other than the independent vendors provided at orientation. This happens rarely and is not encouraged. However, iMentor does not cover any costs related to completion of the TB requirement. The Volunteer Screening Manager for Bay reviews a report for all clearance updates and reflects those in Salesforce.
Baltimore volunteers are fingerprinted by appointment at Bith Group, an independent vendor. Applicants must bring a government-issued photo ID to their fingerprinting appointment, along with this completed form. iMentor covers the cost for fingerprinting and reprints. The Volunteer Screening Manager for Baltimore receives all applicant status updates and reflects those in Salesforce.
